Ecologi project of the month | Peatland restoration and conservation in Indonesia

This month our funding went, with your help, towards the following incredible project, as described by Ecologi:

The Katingan Mentaya Restoration and Conservation Project is located within the districts of Katingan and Kotawaringin Timur in the Central Kalimantan Province of Indonesian Borneo.  The project sets out to protect and restore 149,800 hectares of peatland ecosystem.

Through the protection and restoration of peatland ecosystems, the project pursues three core goals: Firstly to protect the carbon stored within these peatlands and prevent its release into the atmosphere, mitigating climate change. Second, to protect the rich biodiversity of the region; this area is an important habitat for a diverse community of plant and animal species, containing 44 critically endangered or vulnerable species, including 5-10% of the world’s remaining Bornean orangutan population.

Finally, this project works to improve the well-being and sustainable economic prospects of the 49,000 people in 39 villages, through initiatives such as micro-finance loans to support local female-led business, youth job training and internships, and the provision of health education and wellbeing support for the most vulnerable community members.

If you’d like to warm your environmental cockles further, have a read of the full project post and everything else that Ecologi are getting up to here.

Sustainable gift wrapping is now here!

Get rid of that guilty pile of wrapping paper FOR GOOD. This Christmas (and beyond) you can get your presents wrapped up in reusable, beautifully patterned cloth 🎁

Ideal for the planet loving patron, this is a gorgeous alternative to wasteful single use wrapping paper that allows you to reduce your carbon footprint with every gift.

Our staff will hand wrap your pressie in the traditional Japanese gift wrapping style known as ‘Furoshiki’. It’s simple, beautiful, and keeps your cloth in good nick for future use – our hard wearing (yet still very easy on the eyes) cloth wrapping can be used again and again for future gifts!

Once you’ve got your eye on the ideal gift, simply add on the Reusable Gift Wrap option to your order and choose your favourite of the three gorgeous cloth patterns available.

Lovely stuff!

Staff Spotlight | Lottie

So Lottie, let’s start with the obvious. What’s your job here at grüum, and what’s your favourite thing about it? “I’m the CRM (Customer Relationship Manager) at grüum and I actually own our marketing communications strategy. My favourite thing (apart from the people) is being able to creatively market all of our products.”

Amazing! How long’s it been since you started? “I’ve been at grüum for almost 6 months now!”

Have you got a favourite product yet then?  “Oh yeah – kÿra Gentle Face Wash – all day everyday 🧡

Alright, let’s branch out a bit. If you could go anywhere in the world and see anything, at any time – past, present or future – where would you go and why?
“I’d probably go to Japan during cherry blossom season. There’s something magical about cities like Tokyo with all the neon lights and tech alongside the calm beauty of the vast Japanese countryside. (Not forgetting their food of course)

I love that so much. Okay and finally, please tell us two truths and a lie about yourself…
“1. I get married next month
2. I have a huge fear of spiders
3. I used to live in Belgium

Thanks so much to Lottie for this get to know you sesh! Lottie’s lie will be revealed in next months newsletter – see you then 🧡
